WATERPARK CORNER.

WATERPARK CORNER

The Corner Waterpark conceptual design is an interjection into the built environments in the name of increased equity and inclusion. With the same mechanics as a water fountains and beach showers, the proposed design would install in urban communities with limited access to bodies of water during hot summer months. Small-scale interjections like this one into the built environment have the potential to make cities and urban landscapes far more livable than they currently are. I always think of the miniature library co-ops I come acrost all around the East Coast, tucked into all different kinds of neighborhoods. Although it isn’t a direct parallel, they were erected with a similar spirit – to bring equity and access and beauty to their installation sights. The Corner Waterpark would equally be neighborhood beautification initiative, and instead of facilitating access to books, it would improve needed community access to city water.

Much like a fire hydrant, the access panel on the figure’s left houses an operating nut controlling the little orange valve poking out of the bottom of the device. This would be accessed to turn the water on and off at seasonal changes. The red button is a timed push-button valve controlling water during summer months. The dial on the miniature waterpark’s face simply controls the flow of the water like a showerhead.
